Profiting at the Flea Market

The first Saturday in May is very dear to my heart. It is the annual Fort Gordon flea market. It is a fundraiser for the Officers' Wives Club for student scholarships, but for me it is heaven. You see, I scour flea markets and yard sales digging for hidden treasure that I can resell for a profit. My parents have been "antiquers" for years...it is how they paid our way through college. I guess all that knowledge rubbed off on me and now I can usually spot something that makes me extra cash.

My favorite find one year was a set of china berry bowls. The lady was asking 10 cents each for the bowls. I almost felt ashamed to buy them for a whopping $1.20 but I did and I ran all the way home to sell them to Replacements.com. Replacements is a major buyer and seller of china and collectibles. My $1.20 investment turned into a profit of $123.80!

I have been lucky like the time I purchased a set of ten Masters glasses from the Southgate Rummage Sale and sold the glasses through my dad's antique space for $170.

I also lucked up and bought a charming painting of a European castle at a neighborhood yard sale for $1.00 and my dad sold it for me for $100.

Some of the treasures I keep and some of them I sell but one thing is for sure, as long as there is a yard sale, a flea market or an old antique store, I won't ever go hungry.

Remember, that white Honda Accord you are following brakes for yard sales!
